New Music Concert @ Mahidol Salaya

Surat Kemaleelakul call for my piece to perform @ Music Auditorium College of Music Mahidol U. Salaya - the date is August 31 around 7 pm. In this concert, I guess it will present the electronic pieces by Dr. James Oggburn, Dr. Jiradej Setabhundu and Pradit Saengkrai. For sure, Jiradej will present his aggressive yet funny "Bangkok Graffiti" while Pradit will wash our ear with his "Digital Landscape No.1"

My piece to be in this event so far is the new one for flute and Thai percussion since my trombone and piano piece is to difficult for anybody around here... 

New project 2010

ตอนนี้กำลังเริ่มต้นโครงการใหม่กับ "พี่นาย" มานพ มีจำรัส ศิลปินศิลปาธรแห่งภัทราวดีเธียเตอร์ และเจ้าของสวนศิลป์บ้านดิน โครงการนี้จะเป็นโครงการที่รวมเอาศิลปะแขนงต่าง ๆ มาทำให้จินตนาการของศิลปินทั้งสามคนคือตัวพี่นาย คุณบิ๊ก วรเศรษฐ์ นิพัทธกุศลและผมเอง สร้างโชว์ที่ตอบโจทย์ในจินตนาการของพวกเราให้ได้ ติดตามความคืบหน้าได้ในบล็อกนี้ครับ เพราะว่าสัปดาห์หน้าจะเริ่มต้นคุยกันแล้ว

We’ve been meaning to do this for bloody ages, but it’s finally happening: 8bb’s first ever composition competition!!!!!

This will be an annual competition for the best submitted work for sextet. One winner will receive $1000 cash, a day to work with eighth blackbird on the winning piece, a performance at a Chicago studio concert, a recording for website or promotional use and $500 travel and lodging reimbursement.

eighth blackbird tours a small repertoire of new compositions each season, performing each work many times. Few new works are added to the group’s repertoire each year, with the unfortunate result that it is impossible to keep up with the volume of unsolicited scores and recordings that the group receives annually. In order to unearth undiscovered gems and to give something back to the composers that submit examples of their work, the ensemble is thrilled to inaugurate this annual composition competition.

Applications must be received by eighth blackbird by May 1, 2010. Participants may be citizens of any country, and there is no age limit.

On "Watta: Annop Chansuta in memorium"

The series of analytical essays on method and concept I use to composed my recent piece "Watta: Annop Chansuta in memorium" will tentatively publish in College of Music, Mahidol University's Music Journal start from next month issue. In the series I discussed how pentatonic scales, pop music motif, concept of South East Asian Buddhist Architecture and fractal concept can put together to form structure, sounds and timbres in this piece.
